About
Hello and Welcome to Wolf in the Trees!
My name is Gavin and I believe that handmade homegoods can help make a home feel like home!

As a means to an end in my own home and for friends and family, I have been conceptualising and creating woodwork pieces for indoor and outdoor use for years.
I feel really strongly about sourcing materials that I can recycle, reuse, and give a second (or third!) life, and using materials that do not contain resources that harm our planet. I believe that everything I make must have beauty as well as functionality - balance is key!

Pyrography is decorating wood by burning designs and images into it. It is a culmination of interests I have had since a child; art and freehand drawing, fire (I have a degree in Fire Risk Engineering!), and woodworking.

I have loved taking photographs since I was a young teenager. I get really excited when I have the opportunity to use photographs to tell a story or capture a memory or feeling. Usually these are caught when out hiking in the local area and further afield.

I use a Nikon D7100 coupled with a 18-105mm kit lens along with a 50mm Nikkor Prime on my day-to-day shoots and I have been playing around with a much older Pentacon FM made in Germany in the 50's. I am very grateful to live in such a beautiful country as Scotland and now in the Trossachs National Park. I hope that you can take a piece of it home with you in the form of a print, notebook, calendar, or card.

Why the name?
Wolf - I have always had a strong connection with the wolf. They play a vital part in ecosystems across the world and I hope to play my part in sustainability with my work.
In the Trees - I am going to be spending a lot of time in the trees gathering inspiration and taking photographs in the woods and working with wood in my workshop!
